'Dayata Kirula' National Development Exhibition 2009 The ‘Dayata Kirula’ National Development Exhibition has been conducted at the BMICH, Colombo from 04th to 10th Feb 2009 coincide with the national independent day. NPC has exhibited its product and services.
Provincial Councils were set up in Sri Lanka for the first time in terms of 13th Amendment to the Constitution and the Provincial Councils Act. No. 42 of 1987. Elections were held to all the eight Provincial Councils for the first time in 1988. The elected North East Provincial Council (NEPC) was constituted on 5th December 1988. After a period of about eighteen years, in view of the judgment of the Supreme Court of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on 16th October 2006, the North East Provincial administration was de-merged into two viz: Northern Provincial administration and Eastern Provincial administration. The President appointed an acting Governor for the Northern Province with effect from 22nd December 2006. The NPC started functioning from 01st January 2007 with a separate budget. The newly organized NPC moved to Varothayanagar Secretariat from 02nd February 2007. Mr. Dickson Sarathchandra Dela has been appointed as Hon.Governor from 10th October 2008.
