Sri Lanka’s second Children’s Magistrate Court declared opened in Jaffna – 17 November 2011

Sri Lanka’s second Children’s Magistrate Court has been declared opened in Jaffna on 17th November 2011. Chief Justice Dr. Mrs. Shirani Bandaranaike and Minister of Justice Rauf Hakeem graced the ceremony as chief guests and declared opened the court.

Governor of Northern Province GA Chandrasiri participated in the function as special guest. Jaffna Govt Agent Imelda Sugumar, Jaffna District Judges and lawyers also participated at this ceremony.

The Children’s Magistrate Court Building is constructed at a cost of 3.5 million rupees of UNICEF organization aid.  

The Ministry of Justice says the aim of setting up children’s magistrate court is to resolve the piled up cases relating to children without delay.

It should be notable that the country’s first children’s magistrate court was set up in Battaramulla.
