Sustainable Electricity Supply to Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts – 14 February 2012

‘Vavuniya Kilinochchi Transmission Project‘ made  sure the continuous  electricity supply to Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts. This project has been already started under ‘Vadakkin Vasantham’ programme with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA).

Two step-down transformers worth of Rs.3000 Million were brought to Kilinochchi CEB project site. These transformers will step down the Vavuniya supply of 132KV into 33KV. Through this project industrial investors in these areas will gain the benefits as they could get the three phase supply for their Industries from this step down process.

This project is expected to be completed by the end of July 2012.

Around one hundred and twenty thousand people and business societies of Kilinochchi district will benefit from this project. Further another hundred thousand residents of Mullaitheevu district will also receive the benefits of this project.

This project is also implemented in par with Mahintha Chinthanaya where president Mahinda Rajapaska has clearly stated that electricity supply will be provided island-wide to prosper the villager’s living standards. The president’s vision has been implemented effectively in Northern Province with the guidance of Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa. This is a blessing to the northern people especially to the people from Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu since, the brother and son of His Excellency the president show more interest in implementing development projects in Northern Province. It should be noted that H.E. the President will not be available every time when there is a development activity in Northern Province. But he has tried his best to be present at important events amidst his busy schedule.

Hence, Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa are pushing the development wheel in the Northern Province on behalf of the president. Further the dress that they wear and the speech that they make also represent the president, which means the people in Northern Province can be satisfied that the country’s leader pay extra attention to their grievances. President also appointed an able administrator GA Chandrasiri as the Governor of the Northern Province where the province has seen many heights under his administration.
