We are celebrating the 62nd National Indenpence Day. This is a very important day especially for the North because the flag of peace flutters for the first time after liberation.

HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa under his able leadership was able to liberate not only the north but also the whole country from the ravages of terrrorism, and today the peace prevails in the whole country.

This peace is made possible to the people of this nation due to the heroic deeds of the Security Forces headed by the Commander in Chief, HE the President.

We are indebted to all of them to be able to celebrate this day in freedom sans any fear.

The National Flag flutters in the North in peace and freedom for the first time experiecing the true meaning of peace and freedom today. This is more meaningful due to the progress of development that is taking place. On this accord we should be thankful to the vision of HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa towards whice we in the North should endeavour to cooperate and assist in the future.

May the people of Sri Lanka who are celebrating this National Day have a peaceful and properous future.
