The water plant Hyacinth (Eichhornia) are spreaded on the surface area of the reservoir and causes loss of water due to evapotranspiration. As a result, the water resource of the beneficiaries under this scheme further reduced and the farmers could not carry out the yala cultivation successfully.

To create awareness among farmers on this, the officers of the Irrigation Department, Vavuniya Range under the leadership of Eng.T.Rajgobu, IE, Vavuniya with the guidance of Eng.N.Navanesan, DDI, Vavuniya Range arrange shiramadana campaign on every Wednesday to remove these plants.

Now the farmer organization of this scheme has also informed that their members will participate in this exercise after realizing the importance of removing this plant.
