56 Housing Units ceremonially handed over to IDPs - 06 June 2010

Two Sri Lankans presently living in the United Kingdom, donated  two housing complexes consisting 34 and 22 housing units in Pirappamadu and Kokeliya respectively.  34 housing units were constructed newly in Pirappamadu and the Kokeliya houses were fully renovated.

These houses were ceremonially handed over to the new occupants. Hon. Governor Northern Province GA Chandrasiri attended the ceremony on 06 June 2010 in which the Chief Guest was Hon. Milroy Fernando MP, Minster of Resettlement.  

The IDPs who had left their villages have now been resettled in their place of origin in Pirappamadu and Kokeliya.

Rev. Yatiravana Wimala Thero of the “Thisarana Sarana Foundation” initiated this housing programme that was funded by Mr. Anura Perera and Mr. Ryan Perera from United Kingdom. Construction of the houses were done by the Sri Lanka Army under the direct supervision of Brig. Priyantha Napagoda IG, Commander 56 Division, under command of Major General GDH Kamal Gunaratne RWP RSP USP psc, Security Forces Commander Wanni.
