A new school building, a laboratory and a computer laboratory of the Kilinochchi Maha Vidyalayam were ceremonially declared open on 11 June 2010. on Hon. Bandula Gunawardena MP, Minister of Education, Hon. Governor, Northern Province, GA Chandrasiri, Hon. Namal Rajapaksa MP, Hon. Uditha Lokubandara MP and Mr. Sunil Sirisena, Secretary, Ministry of Education graced this occasion as Special Guests.
Speaking at the ceremony Hon. Minister Bandula Gunawardena stated that the government has created an environment for the entire student generation to pursue studies without fear and suspicion and that the Government considered all children, whether they are Sinhalese, Tamil, Burgher or Malays, as their children.
Hon. Minister also stated that the Government’s prime objective is to give an opportunity for the children of the North who took to arms, all facilities including books and computers to step into the modern world tomorrow.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said that the HE the President has created an environment for the children, whether they live in the North or South, to pursue studies in a peaceful environment. He further stated that the government is dedicated to develop the rest of the infrastructure and enable the youth to engage in vocational training and jobs, in addition to pursuing their studies.
The distribution of books and uniforms among the school children took place on this occasion.
Mr. L. Ilaangovan, Secreatry of the Ministry of Education, NP, Mr. T. Rasanayagam, Deputy Chief Secretary, Provincial Public Administration, NP, Mrs. Rupawathy Ketheeswaran, Government Agent / District Secretary, Kilinochchi, Officials of Security Forces, Officials from Northern Provincial Council and large number of students, teachers and parents were present at this event.
