Annually the Department of Industries, Northern Province conducts the Provincial Industrial Exhibition for the betterment of micro & small scale entrepreneurs who are engaged with Handloom textile, Handicraft and food processing. This year the Provincial Industrial Exhibition was held on 8th September 2016 to 10th September 2016 at Vavuniya UC Hall.
Opening ceremony of Sales centre in Ariyakulam, Jaffna was held on 11th July 2016. Provincial Minister of Education T. Gurukularajah honored this function as Chief Guest and declared open the centre. Mrs. Usha Subalingam, Director, Dept. of Industries chaired the event.
The new secretariat for the office of the Chief Minister and Chief Minister’s Ministry with a floor area of 18,000 sq.ft. was built under the CBG allocations in the year 2014 and 2015 at a total cost of Rs. 90.0 Mn. as a second stage of the Council Building Complex, with a total cost of Rs. 390.0 Mn.
Under the Chief Minister’s allocations, a group of low income families received livelihood assistances in the form of cash and kinds in an event held on 23rd March 2016 at Chief Minister’s Ministry, in Jaffna. About 1.3Mn worth of assistances were distributed by the Chief Minister.
Ministry of Tourism Development has undertaken a programme in all nine provinces in Sri Lanka to enhance the quality hospitality tourism services through homestay units. In that respect, this program was introduced through the Chief Minister’s Ministry in Northern Province.
Tourism development activities are carried out by the Chief Minister’s Ministry PSDG fund. According to this, a tourist relaxing with cafeteria centre was constructed at Nanaddan, Hanging bridge area located at 3.0 kms from Madawachchi – Thalaimannar highway in Nanaddan Pradeshiya Sabah area under 2014 PSDG fund.
